GEN 2:17; EPH 2:1-3; COL 2:13. B. those who cannot see it. JOH 3:3. C. those who cannot hear it. JOH 8:43. D. those who cannot understand it. JOH 8:43; ROM 3:11. E. those who will not seek God. PSA 14:2-3; ROM 3:11. F. those who cannot please God. ROM 8:8. G. those who cannot be subject to it. ROM 8:7. H. those beyond any reformation. ISA 26:10. I. those who are natural men only. 1CO 2:14. J. those at war with the Spirit. GAL 5:17. K. those at war with God. ROM 5:8; 8:7. L. those without fear of God. ROM 3:18. M. those without faith. HEB 11:6. N. those who think it is foolishness. 1CO 1:18. O. those whose minds are blinded by Satan. 2CO 4:3-4. P. those who never hear it. ROM 10:14. II. The DENIAL OF MAN’S COOPERATION precludes it. A. Scripture denies man’s will in regeneration. JOH 1:13; 1JO 5:1. B. Scripture denies man’s ability to please God. ROM 8:8; PHIL 2:13. C. Scripture denies any works by man. JOH 6:63; TIT 3:5. D. Scripture denies any activity contrary to grace. ROM 4:4; 11:6; EPH 2:5. E. Scripture affirms only God’s will and activity in it. JOH 3:8; 5:21; JAM 1:18. III. The RESULTS OF REGENERATION preclude it. A. Faith depends upon regeneration. ACT 18:27; GAL 5:22; EPH 1:19; PHIL 1:29. B. Any activity towards God is owing to regeneration. PHIL 2:13; PSA 110:3. C. We were regenerated for good works, not because of them. EPH 2:10; 4:24. D. Ability to see, hear, or know God is owing to regeneration. JOH 3:3; 8:47; HEB 8:10-11. E. Faith and works are evidence. ACT 10:34-35; 1JO 2:29; 3:7, 14; 4:7; 5:1, 4. IV. The MEANS OF REGENERATION preclude it. Regeneration is: A. ascribed to God the Father. JOH 1:13; 5:21; 2CO 4:6. B. ascribed to the Son. JOH 5:21, 25; 17:2; 1PE 1:23. C. ascribed to the Spirit. JOH 3:8; 6:63; TIT 3:5. V. The DESCRIPTION OF REGENERATION precludes it. It is called: A. a birth. JOH 1:13; 3:3-8; 1JO 2:29; 3:9; 4:7; 5:1, 18. B. a quickening. EPH 2:1, 5; COL 2:13. C. a regeneration. TIT 3:5. D. a creation. EPH 2:10; 4:24; JAM 1:18. E. a begetting. JAM 1:18; 1JO 5:1, 18. The regenerate: A. is/were born of God. 1JO 5:1; JOH 1:13. B. is begotten of God. 1JO 5:1, 18. C. are quickened by God. EPH 2:1. D. are created by God. EPH 2:10. E. are regenerated and renewed by God. TIT 3:5. F. called to life by God. 2TI 1:9. G. are never described as getting themselves born, begotten, quickened, created, regenerated, renewed or called (in this regenerative sense). VII. The PURPOSE OF THE GOSPEL precludes it. The gospel: A. declares the total depravity of man. ROM 3:9-19. B. reveals the power of God to those already saved. 1CO 1:18, 24. C. brings life and immortality to light. 2TI 1:10. D. is to convert men from error to the truth. JAM 5:19-20. E. provides for fatherly forgiveness and a spiritual inheritance. ACT 26:18. F. is to give believers assurance of eternal life. JOH 5:24; 1JO 5:13. G. is to give believers fellowship with God. 1JO 1:1-5. VIII. The EXAMPLES OF REGENERATION preclude it. A. John the Baptist was regenerated before birth. LUK 1:15; ROM 8:14. B. Cornelius was regenerated before hearing the gospel. ACT 10:2-4, 34-35. C. Lydia’s heart was opened by God before the gospel. ACT 16:14. D. Paul was called by grace before God revealed Christ in him. GAL 1:15-16. E. Ministers are to feed God’s sheep, not make them. JOH 21:15-17. IX. The ANALOGIES OF REGENERATION preclude it. A. A child derives his existence and nature from his father. B. A child has a mind and will because he is alive. C. A child acts because he is alive. D. A child knows his father because he is alive. E. A child trusts his loving father because he is alive. F. A child has relationship and fellowship with his father because he is alive. G. A child of God experiences all of these things spiritually because he is spiritually begotten of his Heavenly Father and spiritually alive. GAL 4:6. H. (JOH 3:6-7) That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again. X. The GLORY OF GOD precludes it. A. Regeneration is all by God’s will and action to quicken, beget, regenerate, birth, call, renew, create for Himself a people who were by nature dead in sin so that He alone would be glorified in this work. 1CO 1:30-31.
